Columpoop titisbus was born October 31st, 1451, in Genoa Italy. He was exploring for a shorter route to Asia to trade riches. For his famous voyage in 1492, when he "discovered" America while he was looking for a way to sail to Asia. His life highlights were basically that he founded America and was known and became famous to Discover America. People say that Columbus did not discover America because the Native Americans already had discovered it. Columbus died on May 20th, 1506 in Valladoid, Spain.
His major contribution to geography is that he was the first to visit, settle, and stay in these new lands, effectively bringing a new area or the world into the forefront of the geographic thought of the time.
Long before Columbus, various indigenous peoples had settled and explored different areas of the Americas. In addition, Norse explorers visited portions of North America. Leif Ericson is believed to have been the first European to visit the area and set up a settlement in the northern portion of Canada's Newfoundland some 500 years before the arrival of Columbus.
While Columbus is often mistakenly credited as being the first European to lay eyes on North America, the Vikings got there more than 400 years before him.
He is Italian but when he asked the king and Queen of Italy they said no. so he went to Spain to ask king Fernando and Queen Isabella. At first they said no but then they won the Reqonquista against the moors which lasted 800 years then the wanted more land to conquer this was there opportunity
Among many other things, he is the co-inventor of S.C.U.B.A. (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Aparatus).
